First take a heavy pan
Like the one my Grandmother would use
Start with some respect
Then gently sprinkle in a little patience
A good soup
Takes time to connect
So Turn down the heat
And let it simmer
Sit, drink or watch the sunset
Add a note to a friend
Send it sailing into the bubbling broth
Then to the corned beef
A simple staple
That fortifies the soul
Spray a little perfume
As memories can lift the heart
But
Don’t forget the swede
That smell of it cooking
Crosses continents
And ends up in dining rooms across the globe
Dependable affordable stable and solid
Then
Onions for the tears of life
Don’t hold back, Let them flow
And then
Carrots
To brighten the winter
Potatoes to fulfil the belly
For the on going journey
Then
Drop in a spell,
It keeps us young,
Then stir in happiness
And let it permeate the room,
Then
Pour in positivity
It will get us through the fallow harvests
Then
Onions
And more onions
The aroma is home
And home
Is the armour
Then,
As we stir,
Laugh
From the stomach to the mouth
Laugh
And the world glitters
Then
I nearly forgot
Salt,
Yes the salty singing of the sea
Taking us away and bringing us back
Then
To finish,
Jelly babies
And
And
Always
Yes always
add lashings
and lashings
of love
Love,
